A must have hat! July 4, 2010 Roy Bartels (Snyder, TX United States) This is my second Tilly hat, and it lives up to the great fit and comfort of the first. Keeps both sun and rain off.
This is a hat for life, The best of the best. August 17, 2009 J. Petersen This hat is excellent. It is good value. Very good service. It fits perfectly. There is also a lifetime warranty which is very good. This hat looks good and protects your face head and neck from the sun.
BEST HAT I HAVE EVER OWNED AND THE ONLY ONES I WILL WEAR. July 6, 2009 D. Blankenship (The Ozarks) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
First, I need to make it perfectly clear that I do not like hats...period! I rather, as a matter of fact, despise the things. But now that being said, I spend a tremendous amount of time outside participating in quite a number of different activities. Due to the fact that I have a meddlesome physician, sharp tongued wife and nagging kids, I was forced to start wearing hats several years ago. Now I do wear the things when I venture out. Secondly, now that I do wear headgear, I find that I am extremely picky about what goes on my head. This pickiness transcends mere griping and complaining and goes into the realm of fanaticism. Enter the Tilley Hat!
Being in the declining portion of my life I must admit to having been a consumer for quite a number of years. It all those years I have only come across one or five products that have actually been better than the seller claimed they were. This company, Tilley and their claims as to the superiority of their hats is one of those! Their ballyhoo as to the quality of their products simply does not do the hat, or hats in my case, justice.
Yes, I admit to owning four different models or styles of their headgear. I wear the things constantly and in fact they are the only hats that I will let touch my head!
These hats are almost indestructible (more about that later), fit perfectly, are easy to clean, look great on and most important, they do the job you paid them to do. I am hard on clothing, footwear and yes, hats. I do not treat them well at all. I stuff them into pockets, wipe up messes with them, play fetch with the dogs with the, have been known to wipe the windshield of the car with them, and generally give them a beating they do not deserve and were not meant to take. Every style or model of every hat I have owned from this company has been able to take what I dish out and then some.
When the Tilley Company says these are guaranteed for life, they mean just that! I said these hats were indestructible, but I should have included the words "within reason." Several years ago I had an Irish Setter, Sherlock was his name, and he love me and loved to chew on anything I owned. Yup, he got my hat and tore it to shreds. It took him two hours to do it, but do it he did! I thought to myself "Ah Ha, now we will see." To make a short story shorter, I sent the hat back to the company with a letter (a truthful one) as to the circumstances of the massive mess and zap! Within five days I had a new hat, no hassle, no questions, pain free. A couple of years later I happened to not follow washing directions on another hat (yes, I used bleach and admitted to it), and the hat sort of fell apart. Again, it was replaced with absolutely no question. They did not even point out to me how simple the cleaning directions are...if you just read them and did not use the word "Duh" one time in their invoice and letter explaining the error of my ways. I appreciated that as I had already heard the word from my wife when she found what I had done. I am not certain if the guarantee applies in all of these cases, but they certainly backed it up for me. I do have a fried who lost his Tilley under similiar circumstances, i.e. dog bite, and they replaced his too.
The particular style being reviewed here is my "dress hat," which will tell you something of my ward robe. I wear it when I go to town, football games and birding. It is quite water resistant and keeps the sun out of my eyes (as well as stadium lights) and rain off of my glasses. I have had it several years now and wear it constantly and it looks almost new (well, within reason I guess). On this and other models, the tie down works great when boating or canoeing or in a high wind.
The cost of these is a bit steep when you first see the price tag, but trust me, they are worth every penny. I would buy my fifth had my wife not sort of cut my allowance a bit recently. But at least I have the four I do have, and those should last well past the time I have any use for them. Come to think of it, I might just be buried in one of these things.
Still and all, I do hate hats.

A great all purpose hat May 19, 2008 E. Brown 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this hat for kayaking and it's definitely great for paddling but I'm finding all kinds of uses for it. If I'm out in the sun for an extended period of time, this hat is on my head. Definitely recommended.
Best hat April 25, 2008 Pat the Book Lover (Los Angeles, CA USA) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
My dermatologist told me that my head has gotten all the sun it should ever get, so I bought a Tilley Hat. Good choice. The sun is never in my eyes, the hat stays on my head when the wind blows, and best of all, no rays on my noggin.
